My transition from full-time musician to scholar to public historian has happened naturally. I have loved music and history since I was a child. I studied history as a major at Vanderbilt University while playing music in Nashville clubs. After a career in music, I decided to pursue a doctoral degree in Public History at Middle Tennessee State University, beginning in 2019. In the process I found that being a public historian focusing on popular music is the culmination and best expression of my interests and capabilities.
